Mamod Steam

The Mamod company was a British toy manufacturer specializing in building live steam model toys. The company was founded in 1935 in Birmingham by Geoffrey Malins. The first live steam model engines produced were stationary steam engine toys, the company later also creating models of road rollers, traction engines and steam cars. These models were aimed at the toy market, so they were simple to operate and ran at low boiler pressures for safety. They are not intended to be accurate scale models. The common characteristics of Mamod models are the simple but oscillating cylinders and the solid fuel which came in tablet form and provided low heat and safe steaming.

Mamod TE1a tractor has been modified to work with a radio control unit so it can be driven remotely. You will also notice the rubber tires, I purchased these from Forest Classics in England, they really improve the look of the tractor and will also give it more traction. I have add a cermic burner and gas tank which is much better then the esbit tablets because it enables you to control the heat and shut it off easily. Then you can run it in the garage workshop or anywhere without that esbit smell.
Mamod SE2a from 1972- 1975 it has a vap (alcohol) burner, with a reverse lever. Ths one cleaned up nicely and works smoothly.

Marklin Steam

This engine Model 4097 belongs to my father. He received it as a gift from his parents in the late 1920's. It came complete with the boiler and base, however at some time after he went to college or during WWII all was lost except for the engine itself (no base or boiler).

In 2007, I found this boiler and base on eBay and restored them. They wer in very poor condition and needa complete strip and repaint. The engine is my father's, see photo above fortunately it only needed cleaning but did not require any resoration. I mounted it to the restored base, to resemble what he had as a child. I am still looking for a proper smoke stack, pressure guage, relief valve and whistle to finish the restoration. If you can supply any of these, please contact me.

This Marklin 4097 engine was purchased on eBay minus the smoke stack, steam gauge and correct weight. I have found everything except the correct weight, if you know of one, please email. It runs very nicely and the generator powers the light as it should. The light is not original as I can not find a photo of what the light would have looked like on this model.

This Marklin engine was from a 4097 assembly and was purchased on eBay. I repainted the frame which was in very bad shape. It runs exceptionally well. I do need the top for the oiler.
